I saw a military train pass through "The Peg" on my cross Canada journey. A buddy and I were making the trip, got the most horrible Chinese food to-go, and sat in CN's parking lot waiting for a train. The only one that showed up was a 100+ car military train - vehicles of every type on flat cars. It could have been from the base in Winnipeg, heading East or possibly South.

BTW, just a month ago, I was in Yakima, WA. The military base is to the North of the city, and there is usually a few military people in the Walmart when I go there. On this trip in particular, there were Canadian and Japanese troops getting supplies. It's not unusual so see foreign military personnel on base, as last year there were Polish (or Czech?) troops, again seen at the Walmart there.
