UP has for years had an ongoing program to retrofit older units (both road and yard) with "Smart Start" which automatically shuts down the engine after 15 minutes of idling. The vast majority of units now used in yard and local service are now equipped with it. Granted, some don't work for various reasons, but there are very few units that don't have it nowadays.
