Iowa Interstate operates an event-based commuter train between Coralville and Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City when the University of Iowa Hawkeyes play football. Seems to work well for them, and Iowa City is no sprawling metropolis either (it too is a municipality with four-lane highways in a bastion of two-lane roads). It is always better to be proactive and think outside of the box when considering future transportation needs and exploring possible ways to capture tourism and revenue. Not even a prime tourist destination like San Francisco can afford to bury its head in the sand and follow the status quo in this economy.
