There's a side story I forgot to mention related to the image above.

In 2012 (I believe) the U.S. Open is going to be held at the Chambers Bay Golf course. The visitor accommodations and access are going to be pretty difficult. One idea to help, is to bring in a cruise ship that can host 3000 people. Supposedly a dock will be constructed and the golf spectators (the wealthy ones) can stay on the ship and walk back forth to watch the golf.

It seems to me a much better idea is for the Cascades to add a stop at the golf course. A modest platform could be built along the existing spur, just behind the Cascades train in my photo. That way golf spectators can have easy access from Portland to Vancouver, BC.

Any thoughts?
