I should thank you Don for thinking to bring the West Side to our attention here.
It really defined the term anachronism, using n.g. geared locomotives that late...
and with a pretty long haul too. It wasn't just one train, but as many as 3 a day.
The empties out of town really early in the morning, a transfer run usually with the
14 and the loads back to town. NNG, but there was also the Heisler 3 switching Tuolumne.
Ken Shattock asked if I knew Bert Bergstrom. No I did not as the West Side was really
before my time. My Dad & I met Ed Sullivan at the millsite and I had met Merle Roberts,
an engineer and went to his funeral with Al Shelton.
After West Side folded, a few of their guys went to Pickering including Shorty Maddox.
