The final line segement sale between Lamy and the Colorado/New Mexico line HAS NOT taken place at the request of the State of New Mexico. The stated price for the segement is $5,000,000.00. Considering the state of the New Mexico budget it may be a long time before the sale takes place. New Mexico-NMRX owns the line between Belen and Lamy and Santa Fe. New Mexico has contracted with Herzog to operate Rail Runner. Herzog dispatches the line from Belen to Lamy and to Santa Fe.
BNSF still has rights over the Belen-Lamy line mostly serving customers in the Albq. area as well as Abajo Yard. There is no longer a crew base on the line still owned by BNSF, ie.. Raton, and therefore no ability to run trains. The only BNSF employees left are MofW, Signaling and Communications in support of the two Amtrak trains and there positions are tenious.
BNSF has removed all stored equipement and cars along the line.
