The ones I remember in Oakland during that period were the 1271, 1274 and 1279, so I would guess it was two of those, although the San Joaquin Division had some, too.

For those interested, SP bought 70 Alco S-6 swithers, of which 12 were equipped with m.u. and originally numbered and classified as road switchers. In the 1965 general renumbering, those 12 were reclassified as switchers. Non-m.u. units became 1200-1257; m.u. units became 1270-1281.
