I remember that Earl Nall had a true "false" green at El Monte (signal maintainer error) in 1972, but still saw that he was actually lined into the train in the siding, he plugged it, told the brakeman to jump (he died anyhow, and called the other train on the radio telling them to get off. He died a hero saving the other crew. Sanchez was not set up, he was not a hero, he was a zero.

It seems Sanchez, even "if" he may have believed he had a"green", false or otherwise, was too busy texting to look up, when he ran through a mainline power switch line against him, bending the throw rods, and continued to accelerate.

Nice try by Connex, who had failed to do appropriate testing or supervision of this person, despite repeated warnings, to try to muddy the legal waters on this.

So far investigators have not been able to replicate the circumstances where you would, or could, get the signal to show a false green, after dozens of tests. Short of sabotage, for which there is no evidence, the "false" green does not seem to be supported by any other evidence.

I have had many experiences with people miscalling signals or misreading signals, that sometimes happens, even with well trained folks. That's why you have to be on the ball, and check what you are seeing, with the rest of reality, like mainline power switches lined against you?
