I found a Caltrain PUBLIC Timetable dated October 31, 1982 that
lists a PROPOSED SF Ferry Building commute hour service for 3 trains in each direction.
This service would have run on the Former SF Belt (State Belt) tracks
from the regular 4th street SP Depot to the SF Ferry Building.
HIstorically this was in the final year of former CA Gov Jerry Brown's term b4 Gov Dukemejian arrived.

The timetable STATION LOCATION for SF "FERRY BUILDING" was listed as:
"The Embarcadero at foot of Market Street"
This public timetable lists the new station as "FERRY BUILDING"


On the SOUTHBOUND timetable this was listed at the very TOP LINE (ABOVE the normal SF 4th Street line).
I remember myself that this was all a PROPOSED service that NEVER--NEVER started.
The legal eagles probably NEVER got all the "I s" dotted and "T s" crossed to run this service.

Morning trains 29--35 and 41 show PROPOSED SF Ferry Building stops.
Afternoon trains 44--50 and 56 were the afternoon departures to be.

Schedule times were the following:
Train29 Train 35 Train 41
SF 4th Street Depot: 7:40 AM 8:00 AM 8:20 AM
SF Ferry Bulding: 7:50 AM 8:10 AM 8:30 AM


Train 44 Train 50 Train 56
SF 4th Street Depot: 4:25PM 4:55PM 5:12PM
SF Ferry Building: 4:40PM 5:15PM 5:27PM


If ONLY this 10-31-82 service could have started up it would have been a VERY POPULAR startup link to close a very annoying rail service gap.
I think this new service would have created pressure to finally have some sort of DOWNTOWN Train depot in San Francisco certainly by our CURRENT date of 2-15-10 in 2010.
