The "coal traffic" from Golden down to Sparwood is actually the empties; loads come off the branch at Sparwood and head west then north toward Golden. In the past, coal has also been known to head east over Crowsnest. Daily CP traffic over Crowsnest and down to Kingsgate/Eastport for interchange with UP has been averaging one potash load, one or more grain loads, two manifests south; potash and grain empties, one or two manifests north. Add to that CP wayfreights between Cranbrook and Nelson, Cranbrook and Golden, etc.
