I don't know much about the GE's, but I have read that the 265 - series engine in the 6000 H.P. EMD's, was prone to vibrations that would cause the engine ( crankshaft ? ) to fail. Ewe - Pee sent theirs back to the factory under warranty terms with " No Thanks " written across it. I've also read where railroads decided that 6000 H.P. was too much power in a single unit. Unit reduction from 3 each 4400 H.P. units to 2 each 6000 H.P. units, left no margin for a unit failure enroute.
