The software onboard the 90MACs (EM2000, FIRE and otherwise) had little to contribute to their demise. It was their uncanny ability to throw rods through the crankcase, spew impeller blades out the stacks and to rattle the teeth/spinal columns of the crew.

I worked at Hinkle for several years where they would come in en masse dead, cold and drained: all enroute to CEECO for engine work, new turbo(s) or a new engine and turbos. After crews were literally getting tossed out of their seats, they all went back to CEECO once again for truck mods that replaced the skimpy shocks/j-boxes (still seen on 9043s) with bigger/tougher j-boxes & shocks. They were still rough as hell, they just didn't knock you out of your chair quite so much.
