Thanks for the link to the article, Graham. BTW, not all GN trains were rerouted on the NP via Snohomish, as stated in the article. On page 353 of ' The Great Northern Railway' ( the big book by PFM ), there is a picture of The E/B Empire Builder detouring under Bridge 4, dated July 10, 1948. This is the current 'mainline' of the Ballard Terminal RR along Shilsole Ave. While it would make sense for E/B freights to detour via Snohomish on the NP, passenger trains still had to serve Edmonds & Everett, WA. I'm guessing N/B GN freights for Canada also went this way.
