I have been saying for a couple of years now that this is a ntional problem that need a national solution. My preference is for a law that says, in effect, that there can be no alterations to the railroad physical plant even though ths STB can approve abandonments. No more "Rails to Trails" (an organization I used to support). We shouldn't have to resort to judicial action to stop an unwise removal of future capacity -- "once it's gone, it's gone forever" shouldn't be the (sad) cry of just railroad advocates.

I couldn't get NARP to even return my emails and calls about this. And I'm on the TRAC Board and they know it.
