If only it was so easy ...

WAF --

You say, "You want to pay the property taxes on it, its yours."

If only it were so easy, few lines would ever get pulled up -- someone could always be found to take over the taxes -- and insurance!

The problem is, IMHO, that the owner seeks to "abandon", alledgedly because it is a cash drain, but then will demand a HUGE amount for someone else to buy this "loser" of a property. They are the owner, so they have the right, but that does not make it right.

I agree with the concept that our rail infrastructure is not only a regulated industry, but an important national (and potentially strategic) asset, which should be preserved for unforseen future needs (look at all the lines that were downgraded or pulled up before, especially in the streetcar context, and are now being replaced at much greater expense).
