The story I read regarding Espee's Fresno Yard, was that Espee rebuilt the tracks on their old centers (11 ft ), and were then told by CA. PUC that they had to be on 12 ft centers. Soooo, Espee simply spiked the switches shut on every other track !!! This loss of capacity led to many trains using sidings in the San Jouquin Valley as yard tracks & set out tracks. Which of course led to fewer places to stage a meet. Perhaps BOB2 or SLOCONDR can confirm this ???
