Funny someone mentioned that the union had nothing to do with it and then someone pointed out that it was the union that turned it in. Hmmm. People complain that the railroads don't maintain anything and then when they do they do it half assed, seems like if SP had done a half assed job they could have kept the yard the way it was--just be light on your feet when cars derail, by trying to do the job right they triggered some law that meant they had to do the whole thing from scratch and greater expense, as a result they ended up with a smaller yard that requires fewer employees to operate. Also, I suspect that employees still had to walk close to cars as it is considered unsafe to walk the tracks, even it they are out of service. Net result--nil.
