This crossing at Wheeler sat idle for quite awile. When Rail West/Willamette Valley Railroad managed the railroad in the early 90s, I put the crossing in service to help reduce traffic over the other crossing by the small ped loading area. This eliminated some of the congestion. It is interesting to see where some of the grade crossing money was spent on POTB.
I also changed the idea of originating trains in Tillamook. All trains originated at Mahon(Hillsboro). The thinking was that was the interchange point with SP and would keep the power on the East side in case of flooding. The POTB management was not happy. When fuel was put out to bid and the requirements were to fuel in Hillsboro, the Tillamook fuel dealer got the bid and would fuel the locos at Hillsboro cheaper than the Hillsboro dealers.
Interesting times in Tillamook!
