Yea, Joe Strapac mentions the confusion Espee Mechanical Dept. had regarding these units. Some, but not all, received Nathan 5 chime horns, pilot plows, nose MU connections, Alco PA - compatible MU wiring, Icicle Breakers, 1500 gallon fuel tanks, & high speed gearing. Some units were re - geared 3 times !!! Interestingly, all remained class DF-4 or DF-9,( F is for Freight ), until the 1965 renumbering, when the " Passenger " cab units were re - classed EP415-A1.
