For a few years I "commuted" on US-395 between Los Angeles and Reno. At that time there were some movements beyond Searles. There was some kind of mineral extraction going on at a lake bed right alongside the highway. I am guessing there were also customers around Inyokern where there was a small yard. Also if I'm not mistaken, at one time the "Jawbone" branch served some mining operations in the Johannesburg / Randsburg area.

So other than Trona, what industries were served by the Lone Pine? When did they lose service? When did the last Lone Pine Local actually go to Lone Pine?

Thanks for any info and especially photos. This must have been a very interesting branch in its heyday. It was sad to watch it being torn up beyond Searles.
