SP originally bought the SD39s for helper service on Tehachapi, though they ended up just about anywhere in Southern California before being reassigned to LA Basin transfer runs. It wasn't uncommon to find a few SD39s based out of Mojave, to switch the yard, helper service, and work the area locals.
