I can't answer the first question, although I've always assumed it was the same equipment as the old Mojave train... but am just guessing.

It runs about twice a week, I think, without any schedule. Seems it fills up, runs, empties, runs.

I believe that they try to run it at night when they can, but it can run whenever.
