Same with the PO, law enforcement and military. Since AMTRAK and the PO are quasi-government corporations at some point the subsidies they receive would not be there and that would affect service at some point. But that assumes the shutdown is going to last a while and that's unlikely. Just the idea that what keeps our society from becoming a giant pie fight would shut down indefinitely is pretty strange, no matter what the politics.
