Thanks Sam for your comment. It is interesting to me that you picked Rockwall since that is one of those "digital" kind of images that some folks (including me sometimes) still tend to shy away from. It would have been hard to do with film because of the dark areas. The near side of the loco which kinda dominates the image was in shadow (well, since there was no real shadow maybe I should just day dark) but between the dynamic range of the digital image helped along by some twiddling of the raw converter and the infamous shadow-highlight tool in Photoshop....voila the dark gets light. But it gains a "painterly" kind of lighting....not quite real. I have a bunch of images like this and I still argue with myself whether they are "good", whatever good is. I find your comment very encouraging as I turn farther and farther away from film and move more and more toward....the dark side.
