John, of the photos you've posted from the D&S over the past year or so, the ones I've enjoyed the most are where you're down close to river level. That's an area I've seen very few (if any) other photos taken before. Most of the published coverage of the D&S in books and magazines over the years has focused on the rock ledges, water tanks, bridges, etc. To me, these have become almost too familiar, like watching a steam train shot in a movie or an old TV series and being able to immediately say, "Oh, that's the Sierra." But your D&S shots down along the river are, to me at least, like a time machine back to old time railroading anywhere. The period condition of the equipment certainly helps. I look at these and think, wow, with just a few minor tweaks, that could be a 1930s scene on some NP or UP branch in Idaho or western Montana!
