New E units?

Okay, let's for once quit dreaming of doublestacks on the NWP (ha!) and say there's a huge demand for new passenger locos. What were the main disadvantages of the E(F) body style, and why couldn't they bring them back today, a modern version with modern power plants and technology inside? Were there maintainance issues, safety issues, sightlines, etc., or what's come out since just a more "modern" look? (if you want to call it that).
Just imagine Amtrak replacing those ugly ass Genesis and F59's with modern day E Units (the E-10, E-11, etc.?) After all, they've done it with cars (the new Beetle, Mustang, HHR, etc.) Might just make more people want to ride a train!
