You also have to remember that the old Pasadena Freeway was OPENED in December of 1940! Road design and traffic was much different back then. One reason why large trucks are not permitted on the freeway (20 years ago, I saw a semi that had gotten itself stuck on an onramp and could get himself off the ramp, forwards or backwards)! They didn't have 60' trailers in 1940!
