I agree with your contention. I have met younger rail fans who have never heard of a H-24-66 or a DRS-1000 let alone SW-1200/1500s.

Heck, I didn't care about steam until I grew older, and they published reports of its demise.

Us older folks should remember the excitement of waiting for the next one to roll by with 4 units working in run8 and 3 more entrained 60 cars back making the ground pound as they passed. I didn't care when I visited Donner what the train was only that it passed and I got a photo.
