I know Portola makes most of their income from the RAL program.

IMHO due to liability issues, the RAL program should only be run when no other trains are operating (or they can be physically separated), and visitors wandering around the property are at a minimum. Especially a carbody unit (regardless of the back up camera). Was it operating in reverse?

Sounds like 1) the switchtender left their assigned duty post 2) the RAL supervising engineer did not have control of the movement

An injury and damaged historic equipment is not worth it. If there is such a demand for RALs, then raise the fare to maintain revenue levels instead of unreasonably increasing liability exposure for a few more bucks.
