No, you're wrong. I'd react the same way. In both the African-American display and your hypothetical Girl Scouts of America display, I would call into question why Amtrak is the organization that has to be the storyteller. Amtrak is supposed to be a passenger railroad. If African-Americans want everyone to know about some migratory pattern from the last century, then let some African-American organization step in and pay for and put up the display. Ditto for the Girl Scouts. But why Amtrak? Amtrak has only been around for forty years. This migratory pattern happened long before 1971. Someone mentioned that the Illinois Central railroad played a big role in it. Fine. Let Illinois Central / Canadian National put up the display. But why Amtrak? Why taxpayer dollars?
