The police are investigating with vigor. Turns out some of the firefighters had family born in the hospital and are taking this very personally. It has been confirmed as deliberate arson, not just some transient or kid fire getting out of control.

I am personally sick over this. The effort to save this hospital has been a big one with me since we acquired it 10 years ago. Now, it is gone forever.

There are some historical facts about it posted on Trainorders. One of the most interesting is that the first use of penicillian for treatment of gangrene took place at that hospital thanks to Western Pacific Doctor McKnight. He used it to save a young girl's life. His paper on its effectiveness influenced the use of penicillian for gangrene in the later years of World War II, likely saving thousands of lives.
