First of all, if the Surfliner gets nixed, consider that the sets would probably go to Amcal or be bought by Metrolink to supplement their Rotem cars.
I only support this plan if Metrolink uses K-3whatevers or S-3Ls instead of P2s. Nathan Airchime does not know ANYTHING about quality control, considering the P-series castings are inherently flawed, prone to fouling, and seem to be higher-maintnence than K-series horn. Then again they'll probably sould like this after five weeks:
SCAXLINER LESLIE S-3L
And regarding Coaster, they should seriously consider:
1. Replacing Sprinter with heavy rail service. Nippon-Sharyo DMUs with mid-train coaches, not LRVs with underfloor diesels, will do the job better, cleaner, and can rebound onto the SDNR mainline or north to Fullerton's new 4th track. Just don't run them on the Transcon
2. Getting more spacious variants of the Rotems. It's possible. Take out one row in each deck and the legroom increases a bit. The best part is is that Coaster could get away with mounting a K5LA near where the number board is, like a Surfliner cabcar.
As long as the trains keep running, the foamu are pacified, and people get where they need to go in comfort, I'm all for it.
