SP5103 is soooo close. The Rio Grande's original Prospector, a 2 - car trainset built by Budd in 1941, featured 44 coach seats & a small baggage compartment in one of two self - propelled cars, and a small galley & Pullman accommodations for 18 people in the other car. These cars were the direct predecessor of the RDC; however they suffered from a lack of power, too many coach seats, and too few sleeping spaces.
