If we are trying to count all the Y's in Old Barstow, let's not forget the one behind the Diesel shop on the hill. It ended right at Main St. and most folks didn't even know it was there. There is an interesting story about some of the RCE cars getting loose and taking a high speed trip east. Some of the guilty are still working so the "rest of the story" will have to wait a while.
As to Coleman's statement here and other posts that suggest the railroad build this or that. I am sure if you came up with the money plus a percentage for contingies and fully approved engineering drawings and blueprints, and a rational reason for the project the BNSF or any other railroad would be willing to build your project. The bottom line for the railroad is always where to use the money because there is never enough. As to a viewing tower; what you may be thinking is such is the planners facility. There are times that tours are(were) offered.
Cajon can you recall how many cars the Y behind West Yard's stem was good for and didn't it usually have condemned or Ash Hill water cars stored on the end of it.(Damn that has been a long time ago.) Andy
