In fact, I have been hassled by the police 3 -4 times in 40 years of railfanning, with my last encounter in 2003. These situations have been so rare, that I really don't think in terms of "how come he/she/they tresspass without getting stopped by the police whereas if I even step one foot onto RR property, I will be questioned by the police.
However, when I see these protesters, I don't think about them getting away with things, because if they keep it up, they will get into trouble with the law. In fact, some already have.
