As far as the ear problem is concerned, Denver is at 5000 feet and the train then climbs higher than that on the way to Glenwood. Another peak comes at Donner Summit.

On the other hand, in an airplane they shoot you up to 10000 feet cabin altitude in a few minutes, while on the train it would take place over a number of hours; plenty of time for the ear to adjust.
