The love of trains manifests itself in many and vastly different ways.

Some railfans are just happy to go down to the tracks and watch trains go by.

Others are avid collectors of artifacts.

Some build simple or spectacular models and model railroads.

Some go to the local operating museum on Saturday mornings just to operate historic trains. Others are docents at museums. Some fix leaking roofs at museums.

Others renovate old equipment to a perfection.

Some make railroading a career.

Some post to Internet forums. Others do in depth historical research and write books. Some publish magazines or host railfan forums.

Some build massive websites concentrating on one aspect.

Some take pictures for documentation. Others make photographs.

And the list goes on. It's a great hobby. Many railfans do several of the things listed above.

Someone just getting the railroad bug has so many diverse opportunities. So many railfans to learn from.
