Please don't give false or exaggerated facts to support your case. First of all, Schaumberg is only 20 miles from the nearest Santa Fe tracks (at Willow Springs, IL) and only 25 miles from its former headquarters in downtown. Any employee unwilling to go along with a move like this just plain out of luck. It isn't like SP moving from San Francisco to Denver and then to Omaha with the merger (didn't UP corporate move from Pennsylvania to Omaha in the 1990's?).
Second, you refer to his short reign. He was President of the ATSF and then BNSF from the about 1990 or so to 2001. That is eleven years, not bad and it was at the end of a very long and successful career in railroading. He could have easily served another 10 years, but he promised his family he would retire.
