Still, I find it hard to believe that a piece of equipment in good condition would be hurt so much, so quickly, just by being outdoors. Could be the previous reportedly fine appearance was only fancy cosmetics - such as painting over old rust. Wouldn't be the first such rip-off. Paint over rust commonly flakes off about as quickly as we have seen here - that's why the Navy made us "Chip Paint" so much before repainting.

And it was discovered on someone elses watch too! Clever!
