Hey Marty-- Great photos and explanations. However, Car 717 was not really a "Hollywood" car.
The "Hollywood" cars on the PE were the 5050 class.
The cars in your first photos look like they drastically need some tender loving care. Oh well, just a matter of time, huh ?
On the KEY SYSTEM in the East Bay, the transbay articulated units used TOMLINSON couplers where all the electrical and air brake connections are made thru the coupler unit. (Such as on the Unit that OERM owns). Made it easy to hook up to and MU a long string of Units. Longest one ever operated was SEVEN units (fourteen cars) on the last day of operation.
Cheers.
