My friend in the island city of Alameda makes the following comment:
"The other area they propose to take over is the ex-Santa Fe trackage in the Wood Street / 20th Street area. It's not clear from the filing if they'll operate the two areas separately, or if they indend to cross over the UP on the old IER trestle."
You know something... That old IER trestle (flyover) is darn right old, At one time it composed a Wye with the single leg heading toward San Francisco and the other two legs facing Shellmound and West Oakland Yard respectively. All legs were also double-track. It was constructed when the SP/IER decided to start operaring the electric trains to San Francisco over the Bay Bridge and to cease running electric trains to either Oakland Pier or Alameda Pier.
So the date it was probably constructed would have been during the 1937--1938 period.
