Pirie's comments as a lame duck aren't that surprising considering she was spouting about dangerous dirty passenger trains barreling through backyards years ago when UP was still running 30 car freights. Her last minute addition of yet another bridge inspection prior to closing the deal was likely an attempt to drive a stake through the heart of any regular passenger ops in her constituents' lifetimes. It's all a bit moot, as there is little chance of anything but an occasional slow rolling excursion special. Commuter ops have never made sense. She, like the rest of the RTC, showed little understanding of railroads throughout the process.
