Right. Goodwell is about 10 miles east of the Texas / Oklahoma state line, or about 75 miles east of Dalhart, TX, in the Oklahoma Panhandle. Originally Rock Island trackage, then "Cotton Rock," now UP.

The line is single track CTC with a Maximum Authorized Speed of 70 MPH, and straight as an arrow. The collision occurred about a mile or so east of the east switch at Goodwell. The eastbound train was traveling at 68 MPH at the time of impact, the westbound 30 MPH.
