This is an NTSB photo of the switch at the east end of the siding at Goodwell. The point of collision is a mile or so behind the photographer. The photo looks west. The main track is on the right, the siding on the left. You can tell from the position of the points that the dispatcher had the switch in the reverse position with the westbound train lined into the siding, and that the eastbound train failed to stop at the signal (the bottom part of the mast is visible in the right background) and ran through the switch. The NTSB investigator is measuring the gap created by the wheel flanges.
