Guys,
How many of you have an actual paper subscription to a major newspaper? This is why papers nowadays employ young, lightly experienced reporters and copy editors, if they have copy editors at all.
I'm 67, know the difference between an engine and a train and can tell and EMD from a Baldwin. Don't expect everyone to has as much acumen as you have. Not everybody is a rail fan and won't ever be. To most, it's just another story, maybe 10 to 30 per week.
Time was that everyone looked at a train and could tell that the locomotive was just the power. Not any longer. Unless viewers/readers get a whole lot older quickly (not going to happen, friends) we aren't going to see specificity in news reports about railroading.
Way it's going to be,
Chuck
