I may not know a whole lot about the inner workings of the "news business"; but I don't need to know the details - just the outcome. As Thomas Jefferson clearly declared, every citizen having access to accurate, truthful, and unbiased information regarding current events, is crucial to the survival of democracy (or words to that efect). In his mind, that was the purpose of the "Forth Estate". But in their minds though - it seems all they are interested in is to make money and sway elections their way.

I also know, that when any business whatever, provides only a crappy product or service, it will eventually lose its customer base. There is no acceptable excuse for shoddy work that will ever make that reality go away. Not even in communist Russia could that happen!

And no! The shoddy work is NOT because of budget cuts or because newspapers are losing money. It is quite the opposite - newspapers and network news organizations are losing money because they lost their customer base; because of the longtime shoddy product, and the sometimes outright false or misleading reports that they produce. Since their customers never had any real need for B.S., more and more just ain't buying it anymore. Simple as that!

As to the report in question here, there is absolutely NO excuse. You don't have to be a train nut, or even a transportation expert, to understand that airlines do not compete for passengers with local street services of any kind. Five minutes of study as to what each did, would have revealed that fact plainly, to even the most ignorant among us. But nah - just hurry up and print something - just fill up the page! - fill it with your own bias even, but fill it! And be sure to "scoop" the competition while you're at it.

That brings to mind Dan Blather's gleefully shouted report that President Reagan had been "shot dead" -- don't wait for the facts - just blather it out! - With Glee even! So no - it ain't just the young ones that give us bullsh!t - It's the whole damn industry. And it has been going on ever since I was a kid. It ain't new! - just getting worse.

That was ages ago to some of you whipper-snappers out there, but it was the last time I tuned in the CBS news. . . . . "See BS - on CBS News"

The truely scary part though - is that only once in a while do we just happen to be privy enough on a specific subject, to clearly see that a certain report is pure bullsssh!!!tt! -- The rest of the reports - such as "what are your politicians really doing" - scare the hell out of me, cause there it's much harder to tell the BS from the facts.

Oh hell, are we in trouble as a democracy!
