SP's Dumbarton Cutoff???

Climbed up to the house on the center span a few years ago and more recently my job transferred me near Redwood Junction (little Mexico) Had a few questions but it seems that there is little written on the subject

What was the reason for the double track with spring switch from marsh rd to woodside rd.

Why was the bridge double tracked on the East Palo Alto side but not on the Newark side.

SP replaced most of the wooden trestle why didn't they finish the job?

Did Western Pacific Trains ever cross the bridge to reach trackage rights on the peninsula?
