Actually, I believe WP did operate on the Dumbarton Bridge briefly. In the late 70s (about 77-78), they had a spike in grain traffic for port of SF. WP trains were photographed on the commute line. IIRC, they did take the Dumbarton from Shinn (Fremont). The trains were delivered to Bayshore Yard with WP power (and likely SP crews), then the SP broke the trains up and delivered the cars to the WP line in SF. This did not last long.
