I would like to drive a 45 MPG little freeway flier. But that requires about $250 a month payment, with $6,000 as a downpayment. I can't do that. So, I'll keep driving my 1993 Jeep Cherokee at 20 MPG. And, no, I won't try for government rebates, becausre there is no free lunch.
My biggest concern regarding oil trains is if they are transporting oil for export. YES, it's supposed to be a free market economy, but I take excpetion to paying $4.00+ a gallon for gas due to scarcity (manipulation?) if it is possible that domestic oil is being exported. NO, I don't have any facts to back me up on that one, so relax. It's just a relatively minor concern that is at arms' length.
Getting back to the original topic: I think most people on this board know that rail is by and large the safest, most efficient means of bulk commodity transport. So, are these protestors against the idea of hazmat through their neighborhoods, or is it something else??
