Re: The GGRM's last move to the Niles Canyon Railway

Time is proving that the GGRM Board did indeed screw the works. Many able, dedicated members departed, and the museum lost most of its political pull. What saved it this long was the remaining rank and file members, the "working class", if you will, certainly not their leaders.

The PLA has proven to be a class act on many levels. It has taken on a lot of additional equipment and the attendant responsibilities. I don't know if the GGRM will remain a separate entity within PLA, or will be absorbed. I would expect that a workable agreement will be hammered out, rather than a "us and them" situation.

As for running big steam on the SF peninsula, I have to believe those days may be gone for a few reasons. The commute line is becoming a busier place all the time, even on weekends. A lot of the JPB folks that GGRM dealt with in the past have moved on. Every trip on the peninsula would require a UP move from Niles Canyon. Do turning facilities even exist at both ends of the line?
